Benign and preinvasive breast lesions
نویسنده
چکیده
res. In the following article, the most frequent benign and preinvasive lesions are depicted and their further management is explained, especially for diagnosed lesions with uncertain malignant potential. Even though current data shows a good correlation of the results of the punch biopsy and the diagnostic excision (Cipolla et al. 2006), premalignant lesions of the breast can be underestimated with histopathological techniques. Diagnostic accuracy depends on the doctor’s experience as well as on the number of acquired tissue samples (sufficient sampling). If in imaging only a high risk lesion is manifest, further advanced alterations in the adjacent tissue might have been missed out in the punch biopsy. Sometimes, incomplete removal of the lesion can lead to underestimations. In general, all inconsistent findings (discrepancy between pathological and clinical-radiological finding) by an open biopsy should be further investigated.

Mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 increase a woman's lifetime risk of developing breast cancer by 43% to 84%. It was originally postulated that BRCA1/2-associated breast cancers develop more rapidly than sporadic cancers and may lack preinvasive lesions. More recent studies have found preinvasive lesions in prophylactic mastectomy specimens from mutation carriers; however, there is little informatio...

متن کاملDifferentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions by apparent diffusion coefficient value in mass and non-mass lesions
Background: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is one of methods in evaluation of breast lesions. We aimed to investigate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in breast tumors and their accuracy in differentiating benign versus malignant lesions. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 72 patients with 88 breast lesions were investigated by 1.5-T breast MRI from 2015 to 2017 in Athari...
متن کاملMammography and ultrasound imaging of preinvasive and invasive canine spontaneous mammary cancer and their similarities to human breast cancer.
Understanding the evolution of proliferative breast disease such as atypical hyperplasia and carcinoma in situ is essential for clinical management of women diagnosed with these lesions. Therefore, an animal model that faithfully represents human breast disease in every aspect from spontaneity of dysplasia onset, histopathologic features, and genetics to clinical outcome is needed. Previously, ...
متن کاملCollagenous spherulosis in an adenomyoepithelioma of the breast.
Collagenous spherulosis (CS) is an incidental finding that usually occurs in association with benign proliferative and preinvasive lesions. Adenomyoepithelioma is a biphasic neoplasm of the breast, composed of both luminal epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Despite the common epimyoepithelial histogenesis, CS has never been described in association with adenomyoepithelioma. This report describ...
